How to Refresh Your Bedroom with Neutrals
Updated: Jan 20, 2022
Okay, I'm so in love with a simple but dramatic refresh! When we bought this house in 2019, we knew the old furniture wasn't going to make the cut in the new master bedroom. For such a grand space, we felt it deserved more. However, it was pretty overwhelming to pick furniture, bedding and decor all at the same time, and I didn't want to feel rushed making long-term decor decisions. so TWO YEARS LATER...
Two years later, the master bedroom of my dreams was born. It all started with a ton of inspo, some affordably priced items, and a sprinkle of cozy. Well, maybe a lot of cozy and designer glam!
STEP 1: Find the Perfect Master Bedroom Platform Bed
Why a platform bed? The low profile gives the room a sexy look, yet platform beds are super family friendly in my opinion.
It may seem obvious, but bedding and decor are more affordable and easier to change out than a large furniture piece.
So although platform beds come in many styles and colors, it's important to choose something very neutral.

Add the infamous rug seen in all my try-ons!
STEP 2: Incorporate Wall Art with Texture
To this day, I'm so in love with the custom macrame wall hanging! The extra texture, overall look and boho feel gives a unique focal point in the room without being overpowering. This one is the Large 72" macrame wall art (natural wood rod not included) but the $10 rod can be shopped here.
Want the natural wood rod included? Here's a lovely second option with a 40" width. It's twice as nice and twice the price, but it's ready to hang and absolutely gorgeous.
Step 3: Style with Hotel-Level Comfortable Bedding
5-star comfort in your bedroom is absolutely achievable! There's a few super easy tricks and a few important products to make your dreams come true (pun intended). ;)
1. First things first, duvet it. Any duvet will work perfect as long as it's white. We have a cooler/thinner insert because that's just what we prefer to sleep in, but if you want an even fluffier look, feel free to grab an ultra thick/warm insert. You can still have a pillowy, clean look with both.
2. Add a faux fur comforter set & standard king pillows. Showing Koolabura by UGG. Fold the faux fur comforter into thirds and place at the foot of the bed like so. Stack the set of 4 king pillows along the back of the headboard in the upright position.
3. Sham it up! Here's the key so don't skip this step! Grab 2 large square designer shams like these antelope print pillow cases and pillow inserts and place in front of the standard king pillows. (Option 2: grab 3 extra large square designer shams and place them behind the king pillows.)
4. Add an oversized lumbar pillow of choice. What's so awesome is these small pillows can be changed out frequently depending on the holiday and time of year and can change the whole look of the bed for you without having to invest a fortune. Shop the coral pillow here.
5. Select a throw blanket that incorporates the same colors as other parts of your bedroom. If you're looking for a really soft knit throw, the Marled Knit Throws by Arhaus are a 10/10!
Bonus Pro Tip:
Mix and match thrift picture frames and small decorative items on your dresser in front of a round mirror. Frames are so easy to white wash! The more texture and different materials, the better so don't get too caught up in items not matching perfectly. My mirror is out of stock but this wood mirror by Target x Studio McGee is a similar option.
And viola! You've just created a picture-worthy master bedroom with an easy neutral bedroom refresh!
