5 Priceless Mother's Day Gifts
Forget the jewelry, flowers and chocolates. Here's what moms really want for Mothers Day!
#1 - Alone Time
Too harsh? We love you all to pieces, but from the moment we wake up to the moment we go to bed, someone needs us. We seek reprieve in short minutes of quiet and stillness throughout the day finding ourselves only desiring more. Sometimes we even go to lengths of eating our favorite treat in the pantry or hiding in the closet for a moment.
We start to get resentful when we realize having a child meant never peeing alone again meanwhile our S/O takes potty breaks longer than it took for us to push out that child. So yes, a token for alone time probably is one of the best gifts to give mom for a Mother's Day!
I'd go as far as saying there's a right way and a wrong way to give alone time.
Telling us to "go lay down and rest / kick up our feet for a bit" while everyone is still in the house is not alone time. In case anyone has forgotten, those 'mommy ears' can't just shut themselves off when they are activated. Here are some other options:
Mommy Stay-cation:
Pretty self explanatory here. Everyone gets the heck out of dodge for the weekend, day or a few hours. This is a great options for moms who are homebodies or introverts!
Book a Hotel for Mom:
Let's not over-complicate this: a nice hotel nearby (preferably with a spa) for one night would be perfect.
#2 - A Date Night
Contrary to the latter, a chance to reconnect sometimes is the best gift! Double dates don't count here. Brownie points: if the sitter arrangements are made. Extra credit: we get a gift card to pick out whatever dress or outfit for the date night Pretty Woman Style.
#3 - Help Around the House
I love this one because a little goes a long way! I notice every single time my husband does the dishes or folds the laundry and (since I'm so emotional) it honestly makes me want to cry. I love the extra hands. Some other ideas include honestly just picking up the socks off the floor, freshening up the bathrooms, or wiping off the counters. We aren't asking for anything crazy here; we realize everyone in the family is busy.
#4 - Show Appreciation
Let's dial it back a second. This doesn't cost anything and it doesn't take much effort, but it can make a big impact!
#5 - Make Dinner
When I was still working full time, my husband and I split all the housework and chores 50/50. Since staying home, I'm now a 100%-er, so if you are like me, cooking one less meal makes me a happy camper!
Do I dare to admit that one Mother's Day I refused to cook the entire day? Yep, I did that.
